Steps to Book
- Shortlist voyages by route, length, ship size and style.
- Decide full voyage or segments before the line opens bookings.
- Choose your cabin carefully; you will live in it for months. Location, storage and a balcony matter.
- Understand the payment schedule. Deposits and final payment dates on long voyages can differ from regular cruises.
- Read the cancellation terms and buy insurance that matches the size of the investment.
- Ask about inclusions such as flights, gratuities, drinks, Wi-Fi, laundry and shore events, which vary widely by line.
Comparing Value
World cruise fares vary enormously by line, ship and cabin, so compare what is included rather than headline numbers. Some luxury lines bundle flights, excursions and drinks; others price them separately. Laundry is a bigger deal on a four-month trip than on a week, and so is Wi-Fi.

Choosing a Cabin for Months
On a week-long cruise you hardly notice your cabin. On a world cruise it is home. Think about closet and drawer space, a sofa or chair for reading, a balcony for private sea views and a location away from late-night venues and service areas. Midship cabins usually feel the least motion on long ocean crossings. If budget allows, a step up in cabin category often makes the biggest difference to quality of life over many weeks.

Often 18 months to more than two years ahead. For example, Holland America announced its January 2027 world voyage in April 2025, and Viking announced its December 2027 world cruise in August 2025.
Can I get on a waitlist or priority list?
Some lines let past guests or advisors place priority requests before public opening. Holland America, for instance, offered a deposited Future Cruise Request for its 2027 voyages.
Are last-minute world cruise deals common?
Sometimes segments or cabins become available later, but the best cabins on popular world cruises tend to go early. Do not count on a late bargain.
